Kate shifted on the couch, pulling her comforter up to her chin. She turned the page of her book. Ah, the simple joys of a day off. She yawned.
A knock on the door interrupted her drowsy state. She sighed and closed her book. She made her way to the door. Peering through the peephole, she sighed again.
She opened the door. "What are you doing here, Dinozzo?"
"Kate! How are you doing today?" Tony Dinozzo said in a kind of manic happiness.
Kate rolled her eyes. "I was doing just fine. Now answer my question."
"Can't I just want to spend time with my favorite colleague?" He grinned disarmingly--or so he thought.
Kate pinned him with a skeptical glare. "Abby's your favorite colleague. And you know I don't like being bothered on our oh-so-rare days off. Now out with it, Dinozzo, before I'm tempted to shoot you."
Tony scratched his head. "Uh, well, my TV isn't working," he said timidly, "and I wanted to know if I could watch the Super Bowl over here."
Kate raised an eyebrow. "What's in it for me?" She crossed her arms over her chest.
"The gift of my presence?" he replied, smiling hopefully.
"Try again," Kate said, leaning against the door.
"Um... I won't bug you about your lack of a social life for the next week?"
"Can I get that in writing?" Kate said dryly. She walked back into the living room. Tony watched dejectedly from the doorway. "Are you coming in, or are you just going to let all the warm air out?" Tony perked up and stepped inside.
Tony plopped down next to Kate on the couch, holding a bowl of tortilla chips. Kate reached out to steady her glass of water. "You spill anything, you clean it up," she said. Tony nodded.
"Have I told you lately that you're the best sister I've never had?" he said. Kate rolled her eyes and laughed.
"You are pathetic, Dinozzo," she said.
"Ah, but you love me anyway," he said cheekily. Kate just shook her head and turned on the television.
"So... who are you rooting for?" Tony asked.
"The Panthers," Kate replied.
"The Panthers?!" Tony exclaimed incredulously. "The Pats are going to make them run home to their mommies!"
"Please," Kate said. "The Panthers are going to hand the Patriots their asses on a plate."
"Oh, yeah? Wanna put a little wager on that?" Tony asked.
"Like what?" Kate replied warily.
"Like... when the Patriots win, you do my paperwork for a week." Tony grinned mischievously.
Kate snorted. "Yeah, right. What would Gibbs say to that?"
Tony rolled his eyes. "Probably something like, 'Kate has her own work to do, Dinozzo. Are you unable to do yours by yourself?'"
"Watch out, Tony--you're beginning to sound just like him." Kate laughed as Tony looked at her in horror.
"Okay," he said when he regained the ability to speak. "How about... dinner at the place of the winner's choice?"
Kate narrowed her eyes at him. He seemed to have no hidden agenda. "Fine." They shook on it.
"I'm looking forward to a nice steak dinner," Tony said gleefully.
Kate smirked. "We'll see, Dinozzo. We'll see."
