Ah, television.

My family watches a lot of home improvement shows. I mean, HGTV is on all the time.

Today, we ended up watching Discovery Home, because whatever was on HGTV was something they'd already seen. It was this show, Holmes on Homes, about this guy who comes in and fixes major mistakes that contractors have made on people's houses. The episode we saw was one where there was a fire in one of the bedrooms. The homeowner did everything right--called the insurance company, hired the contractor they recommended. But the contractor was apparently a dick and fucked everything up. (That's the short version. The long version is quite tear-jerking, actually.)

So Mike Holmes comes in, all burly and reassuring, and tells the homeowner and her mother that everything was going to be okay, that he'd talk to the insurance company himself, and that he'd not only fix their house, he'd make it a dream home.

And all I could think was, "meyerlemon would love this guy."

I LOVE Holmes on Homes. He really lays out what not to do when hiring a contractor and he's so reassuring to the home owners. I believe he's up in Canada, and damn, do I wish we had him in the states. If I had the money, I'd hire him in a heartbeat.
