Order of the Phoenix

So rachel81689's mom took a bunch of us to go see OotP tonight. (For lo, she is fabulous.) It was a pretty good movie. I actually bought Daniel Radcliffe's Harry. CAPS LOCK!Harry irritated the hell out of me, but I could believe this one--angry, confused, frightened... he didn't just seem like a pissed-off teenager, but one that was out of his depth. So hurrah! Perhaps he'll actually have a career after this series. ;-)

Gah. The movie itself... okay, so they had to cut out a LOT. No Quibbler, no Hogsmeade date, no Marietta Edgecombe, no Quidditch... I'm sure some enterprising fan will make a list of things they didn't include. They did a pretty good job of what was there (even if what was there was the beginnings of Ron/Hermione romance).

Umbridge creeped me the fuck out. It wasn't just that she was freaking psycho. Bellatrix Lestrange was freaking psycho, but I actually liked her. It was that Umbridge actually believed what she was doing was right. Bella might believe in pureblood superiority, but she's also honest about being a sadistic bitch.

How wrong is it that I didn't particularly like Dumbledore, but thought Voldemort was fucking AWESOME? I really believed that he could take over the Wizarding world. (I haven't really gotten that feeling from the books, no matter how much the characters say, "Voldemort is the scariest wizard evar OMG!")

Luna? Fantastic. Loved the actress. And that her Patronus was a bunny. And that she had no qualms in carrying raw meat in her bag for the thestrals. I could've done without the skipping, but there's no pleasing everyone.

Finally: Jason Isaacs in leather? YUM.

EDIT: Also, I liked his portrayal of Lucius in this one. He didn't seem to really want to hurt anyone; he just wanted to get the damn prophecy and get out of there. I can totally see Lucius as more of a behind-the-scenes kind of guy. He doesn't want to get his hands dirty; that's for the minions. But he has an insanely powerful (and just insane) Dark Lord he has to report back to, so he'd better do his job right.

(Amazing how much you can get from five minutes of screen time, isn't it?)

And I really hope I'm not the only one who thought young Snape was kinda hot.

You're not wrong about young Snape being hot. I actually thought he looked much better than James et all. I was disappointed though that his memory flashback wasn't longer because I would've LOVED to've seen more.

Lucius is so totally the "you kill every one and I'll get the item" type bad guy and I'm guessing that's why, in a way, Bella was set loose. And Helena BC ... I loved her as Morgan Le Fay in Merlin but here she kicks arse. Plus, his outfit rocked!

I've also never liked Dumbledore. Ever since I first saw him in Azkaban I've always had a real iffy feeling about him. Now he's all ... meh. Voldemort so needs to kick some arse because he's just so fucking brilliant.

One thing I've always hated is how JK writes the battles with the Death Eaters. They don't give a shit about using unforgivable curses, but Harry and crew consistently use the craptastic spells that are Expelliarmus and Stupefy (AKA Stupid Fry). To me, making one's wand "ping" out of your opponents hand isn't something that'd first come into my mind -- especially when everyone knows about it and odds are that they have a super-effective counter-spell.

On a completely different path, I want Sirius's and Lucius's wardrobes and Snape's voice! :D
