Harry Potter grumbling

Why is it that in almost all independent/powerful Harry fics, we're supposed to hate Hermione? I'm always asking for recs over at FAP for fics where Hermione isn't an evil bossy manipulative bitch--or if she is, she's still Harry's friend--but hardly anyone ever responds.

So do any of you have recommendations for powerful!Harry fic where Hermione isn't spying on him for Dumbledore?

I (almost) win at google.

I wouldn't call it a great fic. (I, ummm. actually haven't read, just sampled it)
But it sort of does fit your criteria.

... I haven't been reading much HP lately. But now I really really want to read dark! and badass! Harry stories.

I am not yet on your f-list, but I have sort of followed you from ff.net, but I also suspect that you and I have talked before -- years ago -- on both the AJ/Mac and Webb/Mac Yahoo Groups. Only there I used my real name because I didn't know better.

I now write HP fic, and have for awhile, although my ships are predominantly Hermione/Draco and Hermione/Snape (which in some very odd ways remind me a lot of Mac/Webb and Mac/AJ, respectively.)

So, will you answer a question for me -- are you Shannon from AJ/Mac fame? If so, do you remember Lin who wrote Transitions? If so, that's me, but I now write under the name of Bambu, and I had to stop and say hi! If you're not, then it's still nice to meet you, and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your stories. I particularly liked your AJ/Mac story, Maybes, and your Ron/Hermione where she says 'Canaries' as her last line.

We probably have talked before--I am, indeed, that Shannon. :-)

I can't believe it's you! I loved Transitions! Mind if I friend you?

Excellent!

It's so great to see you after all this time. I was so startled when I saw your Ron/Hermione piece, and then I started looking, if you know what I mean.

You know, I think your work has gotten better and better with time. It's very layered now and quite moving.

I don't mind at all if you friend me, I shall do the same! I'm positively wriggling with excitement!

OMG I just looked at your LJ and you've updated The Summoning! *flails in glee*

Also, thank you for the compliment! I like to think I've improved since my first fic. I look back at it sometimes and giggle at how incredibly bad it is.

Wait a minute! You recognize my story? And like it? How marvelous is that; what a terribly small world it is.

You're most welcome for the compliment, but it was an easy one to give becuase it's true. It is funny to look back at my earliest work -- I positively cringe!

It really is a small world, isn't it? *grin* The Summoning is one of my favorite HP fics--it ranks right up there with Kim's PWF for my all-time faves. Every time I reread the Halloween chapter, I get chills.

You have totally made my day!

I'm so thrilled you've enjoyed the story -- even as we're narrowing down to the end (I've got only a few more chapters to go.) And PWF was a remarkable piece of work for the JAG fandom, which tended to have shorter pieces, at least as far as AJ/Mac was concerned.

I've really learned a lot about writing while doing this story. Never again will I tackle something this long in a one-book format. Three books maybe, but not one!
